Marisa W. McCann, MA, LMHC (she/her)
Marisa McCann, MA, LMHC, is a licensed mental health counselor associate who specializes in working with children, adolescents, and parents. Marisa’s approach is to serve client needs through the holistic and innovative services that foster hope and recovery through evidenced-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-focused behavior therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, play therapy and behavioral activation. With compassion and understanding, Marisa is devoted to her clients to help them effectively navigate adversity to promote well-being that is authentic. Marisa works with children and adolescents experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral challenges while taking a strength-based and mindfulness approach to help them achieve their goals, advocate for themselves, and attain personal growth that they are striving for. Her treatment approach is individualized to provide clients with care and support to find resolutions to a wide range of personal concerns and psychological issues to support healthy child and adolescent development. She draws from a variety of techniques and methodologies to incorporate what is most helpful to each client. As a mental health counselor associate, she will strive to understand her client’s culture and perception, to identify smarter ways to engage with them in order to build the positive coping skills and resilience they desire.
Marisa completed her Master’s degree in Applied Child and Adolescent Psychology at the University of Washington and her Bachelor’s degree at Seattle University. She has received clinical training at the University of Washington’s Haring Center, an inclusive early education center as well as the Academy for Precision Learning, a school that provides one on one service for children who have learning disabilities and developmental delays. There she provided applied behavior analysis, an evidence-based mental health prevention and treatment, to young children. In doing so, she was also able to provide care-giver support to build positive parent-child relationships. Additionally, she has garnered several years of experience working as a behavior technician in community mental health implementing emotion focused therapy to adolescents experiencing anxiety, depression, and trauma.
